Everyone knows Mr. Deals and Steals and I have always enjoyed San Diego Restaurant Week.  We love fancy schmancy restaurants, but we just don’t have the budget to go out very often, other than our anniversary or birthdays.  San Diego Restaurant Week is an awesome opportunity to dine at some of San Diego’s best restaurants at a great discount!  During SD Restaurant Week, restaurants all over town offer a few fixed menus at a fixed price.  We have discovered several restaurants over the years by checking them out during SD Restaurant Week.  If you need a special date night out I suggest you check out the restaurants participating HERE.

Mr. Deals and Steals and I enjoyed sampling several items from the San Diego Restaurant Week Menu for Del Mar Rendezvous on Saturday!  This was the second time we have dined with Del Mar Rendezvous and definitely not our last!  Del Mar Rendezvous is located in BEAUTIFUL downtown Del Mar.  We love the location!  We arrived a little early and did a little window shopping prior to our reservation and also enjoyed a nice walk downtown after dinner.

We don’t have any special diet requests, but Del Mar Rendezvous offers lots of vegetarian and gluten free options, there is actually a whole gluten free menu!  I know many friends simply cannot go out to eat because restaurants don’t have gluten information available – Del Mar Rendezvous has a whole menu!

Del Mar Rendezvous describes itself as a Modern Chinese  restaurant – not at all your typical Chinese restaurant, it does offer a lot of your traditional favorites along with lots of surprises.  I am not at all a food critic or food blogger, I am a ‘best deals in San Diego’ kind of blogger – so I will just tell you friend to friend that we really enjoyed everything we tried!

We started with something we had been craving since our last visit – their famous Ahi Tuna – SO GOOD!  We also sampled the spicy eggplant – I LOVE eggplant and even Mr. Deals and Steals agreed that it was very tasty (he isn’t the biggest fan of eggplant but he kept saying ‘this is pretty good’ )

I suggest getting two entries and sharing – that is what we did!  I ordered the lobster corn chowder and he ordered the Kung Pao Pork Tenderloin with brown rice and we asked for extra plates and bowls so we could share.  Both were VERY good!  The chowder was very rich – I won’t lie to you – it will require an extra hard work out (but SO worth it!) the next day!  The Kung Pao was also delicious!

And lastly, we enjoyed a decaf coffee and shared a HUGE mudpie.  I am REALLY glad we shared – we thought about splurging and getting two desserts….but seriously, this was more than enough!  I am not sure if you are picky about your coffee and where it comes from – but we were happy to hear that the coffee was fair trade and it came served in a coffee press – little details that made it even more enjoyable!

Again, I am not a food critic – but I know what I like!  I just wanted to share with everyone that we had an awesome experience, the food was delicious, the location was beautiful, and the entire staff was nice and knowledgeable.  If you are considering going out during SD Restaurant Week I would suggest making a reservation early!
