Skirt from a pillowcase! Sneak Peek!

by Kate  on: February 22nd, 2012

So my mom works part time organizing estate sales with a couple friends.  Her very cool job has resulted in all kinds of cool finds for our family.

A few weeks ago a friend of ours who works in a far away land caring for disabled children asked if anyone on their support team was able to send a few (or a lot) of old pillowcases.  My mom was working at an estate sale that weekend and I asked her to buy up all the pillowcases.  She bought what she thought was all the pillowcases – over fifty for 25 cents a piece – score!  I washed & folded and packaged them up.  We crossed our fingers and hoped the customs agent at this country far far away will allow it through so the kiddos that need them will actually get them.

Well, the next day while continuing to sort through the house of a woman who clearly had a linen obsession my mom found dozens more pillowcases.  Considering we had already sent about 3X what they had asked for far far away – we got a little creative.  We got together and made several pillowcase dresses and skirts – beyond easy!  I didn’t think to write out a tutorial or anything – but I will the next time we get together.  We plan on making several for my oldest and we also plan on making some to donate.  I wanted to share a few of our pics of  the skirt we made – tutorial to come someday in the future……………………

(I don’t know why she insisted on the rose – but holding on to it is how I got her to agree to pose for the picture)

This skirt cost 25 cents for the pillowcase (less than that really because we cut it in half and we are planning on some kind of dress for Baby C or my niece with the top) and less than 25 cents in elastic for the waist.  I bought her this top on clearance at Target for about $3 and viola – cute little outfit!

I hope it is not too much of a tease – I will share more down the road!

Enjoy ~ Kate
