The 37th season of theater under the stars has opened at Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista! Taking a show at Moonlight has been a tradition for so many in North County San Diego!  Check out the 2017 season line up here and make plans for a date night or family outing! Supporting local theater is a great way to invest in your community!  The line up at Moonlight is awesome this year!

Shows begin at 8pm.  Tickets can be purchased online.  Numbered seats, reserved lawn seating, and open seating is available.  Tickets have a wide range from $10 – $55.  If you love theater, the best value is to lock in your summer entertainment with Season Tickets.

Ticket booth and dinner options open at 6pm.  Our favorite tradition is to bring our own picnic.  Food and beverages are allowed into Moonlight, but leave alcohol at home (it is available for purchase, but not permitted to be brought in).

Aida – playing NOW – July 1st

“The triumphant love story between an Egyptian prince and a slave transcends warring nations and brings a country together. Winner of four 2000 Tony Awards, Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida is an epic tale of love, loyalty and betrayal chronicling the love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love. As their forbidden love blossoms, Aida is forced to weigh her heart against the responsibility she faces as leader of her people. The love Aida and Radames has for one another becomes a shining example of true devotion that ultimately transcends the vast cultural differences between their warring nations, heralding a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity. With an unforgettable score featuring soaring ballads and rousing choral numbers, Aida is a rock version of the Verdi opera.”

The Little Mermaid – plays July 19th – August 5th

“Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including Under the Sea, Kiss the Girl, and Part of Your World. Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human, Prince Eric, in the world above and bargains with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But, the bargain is not what it seems and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull, and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.”

Sunset Boulevard – August 16th – September 2nd

“Sunset Boulevard weaves a magnificent tale of faded glory and unfulfilled ambition. Silent movie star, Norma Desmond, longs for a return to the big screen, having been discarded by tinsel town with the advent of “talkies.” Her glamour has faded in all but her mind. When she meets struggling Hollywood screen-writer Joe Gillis in dramatic circumstances, their subsequent passionate and volatile relationship leads to an unforeseen and tragic conclusion. Based on the film noir classic by Billy Wilder that starred Gloria Swanson and William Holden, it received seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and features some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most soaring melodies including, With One Look and As If We Never Said Goodbye.”

In the Heights – September 13th – 30th

“From Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of the current Broadway hit Hamilton, In the Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. In the Heights is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.”

This season we are attending opening night at every show and will share our thoughts on social media!  Make sure to be following @HighlightsAlongtheWay on Instagram and also San Diego Deals and Steals on Facebook!

Moonlight Amphitheatre is located at 1250 Vale Terrace Drive Vista, CA 92084

Park in a free lot!  Don’t pay to park!  Our kids actually think parking in the free lot is part of the experience.  Not only do we get to check out horses when we park, we also get to ride a bus! If we are lucky we even get to ride a double decker bus.  The shuttle buses are completely free and run all day and night during the fair.

Jersey Boys is playing NOW in San Diego – discount tickets available!

Posted on: May 11th, 2017 by Kate Hamernik

jersey boys san diego

Jersey Boys is playing NOW at the San Diego Civic Theatre!  We were so excited to attend media night last night and the touring cast was perfection!

Jersey Boys is the story of Franki Valli and The Four Seasons. This Tony and Grammy Award winning show  has been seen world wide by over 24 million people. This is a great show for all generations, I wish we had brought our kids and our parents. The Four Seasons somehow channel the real life characters they are portraying, we almost forgot it was a reenactment a few times!

We attended on a Wednesday night with a packed audience! While we attend live theater regularly, I don’t recall ever being in a theater with such an enthusiastic crowd.  People of all ages were dancing out of the aisles after an awesome standing ovation for the entire cast.

Jersey Boys is playing NOW and will only be at San Diego Broadway for a few more days! Live theater is a splurge, but there is nothing like it!

Please follow BroadwaySD on Instagram – they offered RUSH seats for only $25 last night and this happens often! Always check out their Instagram Stories for behind the scenes fun, but also information about Rush tickets. We have also noticed that there are limited Jersey Boys tickets still available on LivingSocial starting at only $19!

My husband gifted me with 2017/2018 Season Tickets this year for our anniversary – because Hamilton is coming to San Diego!!! Make sure to check out the entire line up – there are so many great shows still in the 2016 / 2017 season, but it is also great to look ahead!

Here is a little sneak peek at Jersey Boys….

Grab someone you love and take them back in time!
