Just as I was getting all smug about how all my facebook friends were battling ants in their kitchen but I wasn’t…. I found them. Ants. A small army of ants had infiltrated our home. Luckily they came in by our kitchen window and had found a dirty bib by the sink. They had all gathered in line for a bite of Baby C’s left over applesauce and nobody had made it to the pantry yet.
So it was really just about getting rid of those who had already made it inside and stop the flow of those coming in.
Well, wouldn’t you know it – I had heard a great tip from a friend’s friend yesterday. See, while my friend was lamenting about ants in her kitchen I suggested using equal or some other kind of fake sugar – I had heard that ants would not cross it. Another friend commented that they would not cross cinnamon either. REALLY?! I had never heard that. This was great news since I do not keep fake sugar in the house, but I do use cinnamon.
I filed that information away in my brain for whenever I may need it. And just a few hours later – we needed it.
I grabbed some cinnamon and sprinkled it right in the corner where they were coming out. Not one new ant came out and those by it scattered quickly. I won’t go into details……..but those ants are no longer with us.
So far *knocks on wood* no new ants either! I just thought a few folks might be interested to hear that cinnamon seems to be a pretty great deterrent for ants. Totally ‘green’ and non toxic! A little goes a long way – it is probably even cheaper than a can of bug spray! I’ve said it before, I will say it again – going green can save you green if you do it right! Check out our other Go Green – ish ideas too!
