Are you looking for Winter Camp for your kids in San Diego?  Helen Woodward Animal Center offers an awesome Winter Camp that can be a gift to your kiddo and to animals in need!  Win win!  Winter Critter Camp at Helen Woodward Animal Center is an amazing opportunity for learning and fun in a safe environment.  Our big kids have enjoyed Winter Critter Camp in years past and have always come back with a new found appreciation for the animals the interact with.

Winter Critter Camp is for ages Preschool-5th grade. Critter Camp is filled with hands-on animal interactions and age-appropriate animal-themed activities, crafts, and games.  Our kids have participated in Critter Camp through out the years and they really do provide great lessons and enriching activities at very age appropriate levels – I love seeing them grow each year!

Take a look at the daily themes and sign up for one day, or all four! Camp runs December 28-31.

MONDAY, December 28 ~ Home for the Pawlidays: Campers will learn how wild animals survive during winter months and what it takes to care for the animals that call Helen Woodward Animal Center home while meeting a chinchilla, dog, cockatiel, alpaca and walking stick.

TUESDAY, December 29 ~ Snow Many Adaptations!: Just like snowflakes, animals have unique characteristics that set them apart from each other. Some sport scales while others flaunt their feathers or fur. Explore the reasons behind these differences and how they help animals survive. Campers will meet a rabbit, dove, snake, turtle/tortoise, and hermit crab.

WEDNESDAY, December 30~ Flock Together for the Holiday Feast: Learn the different types of food that animals like to eat and how they find it during winter. You will get a chance to feed some animals yourself and may see them eating snacks similar to the ones you like to savor! Campers will meet a guinea pig, mini horse, frog, bearded dragon and chicken.

THURSDAY, December 31 ~ Celebrate all kinds of Critters: Animals can do amazing things and the holidays are a perfect time to celebrate them! Discover the incredible ways that animals help people and how people help animals. Together we will learn lifelong respect and compassion for all living beings! Campers will meet a sheep, parrot, hissing cockroach, skink, dog and visit Adoptions.

Daily Critter Camp Rates

Preschool (must be at least 4 years old): $50 per day

Kindergarten through 5th Grade: $65 per day

(It is a splurge – but remember this is not your run of the mill camp AND it helps animals!)

Sunny & Angel Save Christmas ~ Helen Woodward Animal Center

Posted on: December 3rd, 2012 by Kate Hamernik

This is “Fable” – a miniature horse who lives at Helen Woodward Animal Center dressed as a reindeer. I wanted to bring him home. Mr. Deals & Steals would not let me. I may never forgive him…….

This past weekend we were very excited to hang out at the Helen Woodward Animal Center to attend Sunny & Angel Save Christmas!   Our kids loved the magical story about how the animals at Helen Woodward Center helped out Santa in his moment of need. 😉 They especially loved meeting Santa and I liked that they did not have to wait in a line.   Santa even gave all the kids an early Christmas gift, a really sweet stuffed ‘rescue puppy.   They had lots of fun making crafts, playing in ‘snow’, and touring the awesome facilities.

Sunny & Angel Save Christmas is not a free event – but the admission price includes so much fun and it helps support the good work at The Helen Woodward Animal Center.   I suggesting skipping the line at the mall to meet Santa – spend some time with him at HWAC and enjoy the festivities while you are there!

Enjoy ~ Kate
