The Vista Rod Run returns for the 28th time to Main Street in Vista. With over 5,000 fans in attendance, come check out hundreds of classic and custom hot rods, street rods, muscle cars, and trucks along with 20 local vendors and live entertainment. Thirty trophies will be awarded. Proceeds from raffles benefit Vista teen-outreach program Hunger Hurts. Hosted by the Vista Village Business Association.

8/13 – ENCINITAS | 12th Annual Dogs Days of Summer (FREE for visitors; $5 for contest participants)

Bask in the sun amidst 200 dog-related vendors and rescue groups, pet adoptions, live music, dog contests, kids’ activities, beer & wine garden, food trucks, and more. This year be sure to check out the new addition of Rescue Row presented by Rancho Coastal Humane Society and a Pet Health Expo presented by the City of Encinitas featuring pet services provided by the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services.

Does your dog like to strut its stuff? Enter one of 6 categories: Cutest Puppy, Best Looking Big Dog, Best Looking Small Dog, Best Trick, Best Dressed, and Dog/Owner Look-A-Like. Compete to take home a ribbon for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place and a goodie bag of cool prizes.

Summer is HERE!! There are some fun and affordable things to do in North County this month! Here’s a list of events and activities in June in North County San Diego.

6/10 – SAN MARCOS| San Marcos Summer Music Fest, 12pm-8pm (Cost: $12-$20 per person | Buy Tickets)

Live bands include Peace Frog (Doors tribute), Calphonics (80s tribute), Craig’s Band (classic rock), Bill Magee Blues, the Sea Monks, and Dani Arribere. Food and beverages will be sold on-site, and a beer and wine garden will be available for those 21 years and older. Local craft beer vendors including Stone Brewery, Rip Current, Black Market Brewing, Markstein and Lost Abbey will be pouring. Bring your own beach chairs or blankets for lawn seating.

6/17 – ENCINITAS| Surfrider Cleanup Meet-up, 9am (FREE)

The Surfrider Foundation San Diego County Chapter and San Diego Coastkeeper have coordinated a beach cleanup at Moonlight State Beach in Encinitas. Meet on the sand by the beach stand and showers/restrooms. All you have to do is show up with comfortable clothes, closed-toed shoes, and sunscreen.

 

All volunteers are welcome to participate and must sign a liability waiver. Volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver before the minor can participate.

6/17, 6/18 – VISTA| North County Mini Maker Faire, 9am-4:30pm (Cost: $12-$15 per person | Buy Tickets)

5/28 –  Vista Strawberry Festival (FREE)

Looking for something fun to do outdoors for Memorial Day that the whole family will enjoy?  Enjoy the 7th Annual Vista Strawberry Festival.  There will be all kinds of fun, food, entertainment stages, bands, carnival rides and lots of strawberries! 2/7 – OCEANSIDE: Visit the California Surf Museum (FREE 2/7; otherwise $5 per adult)

Open daily 10am-4pm and Thursdays until 8pm, enjoy learning about the heritage and art of surfing. From the history of how surfboards evolved over the years to how San Diego has uniquely influenced the sport, this museum will offer an amazing experience. You’ll even see the surf board of Soul Surfer’s Bethany Hamilton who lost her arm to a shark bite in Kauai with a big bite taken out of it!

ENCINITAS: Moonlight State Beach Cleanup (FREE)

On Saturday, January 21 at 9am, join fellow ocean-lovers as they help keep the beach free of trash – especially the small pieces of trash and cigarette butts that often look like food to sea creatures. In lieu of plastic bags, please bring a bucket or reusable bag and gloves. Under 18? That’s ok! Just plan to have the waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
