Christmas Time at SeaWorld

Posted on: November 25th, 2015 by Kate Hamernik

The Christmas time at SeaWorld Celebration kicked off on November 21st and runs through January 3rd. I love that there are so many fun activities all around San Diego to celebrate the Holiday season.  If you have never been to SeaWorld during Christmas time this might be the year!  Special Christmas and holiday themed shows, decorations, treats, and more are great way to enjoy some time as a family!  Make sure to sneak in some educational moments about Sea life and conservation while you are enjoying the holiday time festivities as well!

Christmas Time at SeaWorld

Santa’s Reindeer and The Christmas Village are a great tradition.  Take a peek at Santa’s reindeer who are vacationing in the park for the holiday season. In The Christmas Village which is close to the Christmas Village you can visit with elves and Santa, listen to caroling groups, and of course holiday treats.  My son suggests you try the Mashed Potato Pizza and don’t leave without a rich hot cocoa!

Holiday decor and seasonal shows are not to be missed!

Our favorite shows were Pets Rule and the brand new Sesame Street Christmas show!  Make sure to check it out!

We had such a great time kicking off the holiday season at SeaWorld San Diego!  We can’t wait to be back again!

* SeaWorld recently announced that the long debated Shamu Show will be phased out in 2016 and will be replaced by conservation oriented Orca exhibit starting in 2017.  Whether you have been shying away from SeaWorld because you do not agree with the killer whale show or if you haven’t been in a while and want to see Shamu before that show goes away it is good information to have.

SeaWorld Lunar New Year!

Posted on: February 14th, 2015 by Kate Hamernik

SeaWorld Lunar New Year Celebration kicked off on Friday and will run for the next three weekends.  Lunar New Year at SeaWorld is brand new this year and it features all kinds of special fun!

Lion Dancers, specialty food, festive scenery, acrobats, and so much more!

Here are a few things you can see at SeaWorld only during the Lunar New Year Celebration…….

Chinese Acrobats of Hebei: The Chinese Acrobats of Hebei combine Chinese traditions, incredible acrobatics, stunning costumes, Chinese props and a beautiful soundtrack. During 25-minute shows held four times a day at SeaWorld’s Mission Bay Theater, several acts will be performed including lion dancing, plate spinning, hoop diving, hat juggling, contortion and chair stacking.

*This was by far my kid’s favorite feature!  Watching these very talented acrobats was quite a treat!”

Red envelopes with surprises: In keeping with the tradition of wishing prosperity and good fortune to family and friends, each guest who comes through the turnstiles during Lunar New Year will receive a red envelope with a surprise gift inside.  Gifts will vary from guest to guest and will include free or discounted culinary samplings and premium seating at Mission Bay Theater for live performances of the Chinese Acrobats of Hebei. *We were there and we each got a red envelope – we got things like front of the line tickets, deeply discounted animal encounter experiences, photo key discounts, and even a free admission to SeaWorld!)*

Community stage: At SeaWorld’s Lunar New Year Festival area (located just east of the Explorer’s Reef™ arrival experience), the community stage features taiko drummers, lion dancers and fan dancers.

For a small fee there are games for kids, and at the Wish Tree, guests can write a conservation wish on a red ribbon they purchase for $1 and place on the tree.  *Proceeds will benefit the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund.* * Our kids enjoyed this coin game – everyone is a winner – they both won a second place prize!  It costs $5 to play and each of our kids won a stuffed sheep (it is the year of the sheep according to the Lunar Calendar) – we thought $5 was a very reasonable price for a game and a souvenir. *

Asian-inspired culinary offerings:  I love special treats that only come around for certain holidays!

Soup Bowl Hut: duck lumpia, vegetable spring rolls, miso ramen soup and pot stickers; Tea Hut: shaved snow, sweet dorayaki griddle cakes and green tea; Stir Fry Cart: stir fry noodles and chow mein; Grill & Bao Cart: turkey legs with hoisin sauce and bao sandwiches (five-spice pork belly bun with pickled kimchee).* Our kids are becoming little foodies, we all agreed that the green tea macaroons were the best!*

SeaWorld Lunar New Year will be held at SeaWorld San Diego only on weekends now through March 1st!  Enjoy! Kate

SeaWorlds Halloween Spooktacular

SeaWorld Spooktacular

We loved SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular celebration last year.  If you are looking for a family friendly daytime not so scary Trick or Treat option in San Diego, check this option out.

SeaWorld’s Annual Halloween Spooktactular was a BLAST!   Bubbles, dancing fish, fun music, bright beautiful costumes, cookie decorating, pumpkin painting… I could go on!   Oh wait, did I forget to mention the candy! Trick-or-Treating all around the park and at the heart of the Spooktactular. The kiddos did not have any trouble spotting each and every treat station, clearly marked with what type of treat they would be receiving, and the short lines helped make sure each child’s treat bag, provided by SeaWorld, were filled in a timely manner, even by kid standards! HA!

SeaWorld Fish

At the heart of the Spooktactular there were character appearances, photo opps with a beautiful mermaid, and a dance party with bubbles blowing out from all around the stage! It really was a fun day for all! Mix all this fun in with Halloween themed shows and music throughout the park and you are sure to have a splashing fun kick off to Halloween. Come in your costume or as your silly self and you are sure to enjoy every bit of this fantasea themed celebration now though October 26th at no extra cost to your SeaWorld admission.

Also worth mentioning – SeaWorld currently has a great money saving promotion running!  Kids are FREE with each Full Priced Adult ticket (see link for all the details).   Theme parks are a splurge for sure, but if you are looking to visit SeaWorld – Halloween Spooktacular AND Kids FREE is a pretty budget friendly time to go!

Thank you to our friends for filling in for us and sharing their experience here – we hope you had an awesome time!
