Things to do in North County San Diego in October

Fall is here and with our amazing weather and great community there’s still plenty of great things to do in North County. Check out on the many great FREE things to do in North County San Diego in October.

10/6 – OCEANSIDE | Oceanside First Friday Art Walk (FREE)

Octobers’ event will continue to feature dozens of local artists, musicians and over 20 venues in the downtown Oceanside Cultural District. The Art Walk area covers a five-block walkable expanse in downtown Oceanside that is bordered by Pier View Way and Mission Avenue (north to south) and Nevada Street to Cleveland (east to west).

Oceanside Pedi-Cab will also be offering complimentary transportation between venues and art exhibits for attendees. Main pick-up locations will be on Mission Avenue or Pier View Way, or you can call the phone number for pickup that is printed on the back of the Art Walk maps available at the event.

 10/7 – ESCONDIDO | Grape Day Festival (FREE)

Family fun includes grape stomping, free grapes, kid-friendly games, entertainment, and contests. Get covered head to toe in fluffy Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap Foam. Go to the beer and wine garden hosted by Stumblefoot Brewery and the Forgotten Barrel, served by Rotary After 5pm. Enter a Pie Eating Contest hosted by Marie Callenders. Try excellent chili from chili cook-off between Escondido Fire Department, Escondido Police Department, and the Escondido History Center. Live entertainment on the main stage, craft vendors, jump houses, pumpkin carving, raffles, and more.

 10/7 – ENCINITAS | Moonlight Beach Bash (FREE)

Moonlight Beach Fest celebrates Encinitas life to the fullest, bringing together arts, and beach culture. Enjoy food trucks, Taco Picasso & Kona Ice, the Devastators live in concert, live acts by Fern Street Circus, dance and performances from Studio FX, and sidewalk chalk artists. See a giant sand sculpture being built throughout the event to be completed before the event ending for a great photo opportunity.

We’re always looking for fun things to do in North County and beyond. There are some great events this month to keep your social calendars full. Enjoy!
1) SD Botanic Garden – Thursday Family Fun Night
Looking for a few more ways to entertain the kids before they head back to school? Head on over to the San Diego Botanic Gardens every Thursday from 6-7pm throughout the month of August or Family Fun Night and some outdoor fun! From dance teams to a kid-folk band and even a puppet show, there is certainly fun for all! Oh, and for all you garden lovers, the gardens are open 4:30-8pm these evenings.
Extreme thrills, exotic animals and extraordinary performers! That’s right, the circus is coming near you! But this isn’t just any circus, it’s Circus XTREME – featuring BMX freetstyle riders, slack line gymnastic tricks, trampoline acrobats, bungee skydivers, camels and the Mangolian Marvels strongmen! The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus XTREME will be at the Valley View Casino Center from August 6th-9th. We all know that Oceanside is home to military, skate and surf. But did you know that it is now becoming a thriving art district? This even is free and fun for all ages, so bring the family!

3 Things to do in North County San Diego in March

Where is this year going? I can’t believe it’s already March. We’re always looking for things to do especially on Sunday Funday. Here are 3 things to do to keep your weekend interesting. Enjoy!

1. Encinitas Community Park

Have you seen the new Encinitas Community Park? It. Is. Gorgeous. This new and massive park has it all. The park includes paved walking paths and bench areas, two restroom buildings, a 13,000 square feet skate park, a 2-acre dog park, soccer field, multi-use fields including baseball and softball, and plenty of open turf areas. And did we say it’s gorgeous? The park is surrounded by a meandering dry creek with boulders and dense landscaping. Definitely worth a visit. 2. St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Dig through your closet and throw on all of your favorite green attire – it’s time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Don’t miss the 4th Annual North County St. Patricks Day Parade and Festival in Vista’s historic downtown on Sunday, March 15th. The celebration kicks off with a VIP breakfast at the Vista Village Pub filled with Irish favorites like corned beef hash and Irish coffees. The parade runs from 11am-12pm and is followed by live entertainment from 12-4pm. A full day of festivities! More info at: North County St Patty’s Day Parade.

3. Spring Garden Festival

Are you ready to start planting your garden this spring? Check out the Herb Festival this month for some inspiration. Bring the whole family over to the San Diego Botanic Garden March 14-15th from 9am-5pm. Pony rides and a petting zoo for the kids, and a Spring Garden Festival for the adults! Expert gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and provide helpful advice for spring plantings and caring for your entire garden. Hello 2015! This is going to be a great year! Make this the best year yet and take advantage of all that North County San Diego has to offer! Kick off your year by revisiting an old and loved hobby, or try something new! Here’s 3 things to do in North County this month.
Charity Wings Art Center – San Marcos 
January is hobby month! Looking for a place to get your craft on and unleash some creativity? Check out Charity Wings Art Center in San Marcos! Engage in an old and loved hobby, or jump in and try something new! This 600 sq ft. community art center hosts open studio, ceramics, sewing, polymer cla, metal smithing, jewerly making, mixed media arts, and even a kids area. Definitely something for everyone!
San Dieguito River Park – Escondido 
To hike or to bike? We’ll let you decide! But we do know the perfect place to do either and enjoy nature including beautiful lake views!  Check out San Dieguito River Park where you can enjoy the site of Lake Hodges located near Escondido. These moderate trails are also dog friendly. So bring your pup, get outside, and enjoy the great outdoors!

Hello September! Where did this year go? Kids are back in school & summer is over but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a bunch of fun stuff in store for you here in North County. Check out these fun & mostly free events in September.

9/6 Grape Day Parade & Festival  – Escondido

Jump in that barrel and start stomping at the Grape Day Festival and Parade in Escondido on Sept. 6th! After you are all stomped out, enjoy entertainment, contests, gourmet food trucks, and a wine and craft beer pavilion. Oh, and did we mention free grapes?!? For early birds, grab your running shoes and participate in a 5k run encompassed by marching bands and historic cars at 7:30am prior to the festival.

9/19-9/21 Carlsbad Music Festival

Don’t miss the 11th Annual Carlsbad Music Festival from Sept. 19-21! Experience world-class performers and composers right in the heart of the ever-so-charming Carlsbad Village. The Festival has not only been praised by local media, but national media as well  including the Los Angeles Times who claimed the festival as “magnificently enlightening.” This is definitely something that is “note-worthy.” Don’t miss it! 9/27-9/28  Oceanside Harbor Day

Cruise on over to the Oceanside Harbor on 9/27-28 for Oceanside Harbor Days featuring arts and crafts, great food and fun activities for the entire family! Dip your toes in the sand and cheer on an incredible Sand Castle competition and Nail ‘n’ Sail competition! Live music and food booths throughout!
