Hello September! Where did this year go? Kids are back in school & summer is over but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a bunch of fun stuff in store for you here in North County. Check out these fun & mostly free events in September.

9/6 Grape Day Parade & Festival  – Escondido

Jump in that barrel and start stomping at the Grape Day Festival and Parade in Escondido on Sept. 6th! After you are all stomped out, enjoy entertainment, contests, gourmet food trucks, and a wine and craft beer pavilion. Oh, and did we mention free grapes?!? For early birds, grab your running shoes and participate in a 5k run encompassed by marching bands and historic cars at 7:30am prior to the festival.

9/19-9/21 Carlsbad Music Festival

Don’t miss the 11th Annual Carlsbad Music Festival from Sept. 19-21! Experience world-class performers and composers right in the heart of the ever-so-charming Carlsbad Village. The Festival has not only been praised by local media, but national media as well  including the Los Angeles Times who claimed the festival as “magnificently enlightening.” This is definitely something that is “note-worthy.” Don’t miss it! 9/27-9/28  Oceanside Harbor Day

Cruise on over to the Oceanside Harbor on 9/27-28 for Oceanside Harbor Days featuring arts and crafts, great food and fun activities for the entire family! Dip your toes in the sand and cheer on an incredible Sand Castle competition and Nail ‘n’ Sail competition! Live music and food booths throughout!

3 Things to Do in August in North County San Diego

This Summer is zipping on by! There’s plenty of fun kid friendly events happening this month in North County & plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors with the kids before they head back to school. Check out these 3 things to do in North County in August. Have fun!
Cardiff Dog Days of Summer
8/9 10am-5pm (9th annual)
The largest dog-centric event in San Diego is just around the corner! Dog Days of Summer in Cardiff is celebrating their 9th annual event on Sat. Aug. 9 from 10am-5pm. Bring your dog to enjoy dog contests, custom pet products, doggy photo booth and let your dog have a little fun with some exercise at the agility course and socialization. Looking for a new furry best friend? There will be furry friends waiting to be adopted. Enjoy delicious food vendors and expanded kids zone.
Dog Days of Summer in #Cardiff on 8/9 from 10a-5p! Enjoy dog contests, products, animal adoptions, dog photo booth, agility course and more!
10th Annual LeucadiArt Walk
8/24 (10am-5pm)
Don’t miss the 10th Annual LeucadiArt Walk happening on 8/24 from 10am-5pm! Local juried artists will be flooding the Coast Highway 101 in Leucadia displaying original art with open house hours at all local Leucadia Art Galleries. Enjoy a free ride in a double decker bus to shuttle you to and from designated parking.  Over 5,000 people are anticipated to attend and enjoy the art, local craft beer, musical performances and a new Kids Zone with mural painting and art stations!

Time to get one “s’more” summer family vacation in with a family camping trip! Before the kiddos head back to school, pack up the car and get ready to pitch a tent in the great outdoors! There are many camp sites in North County to choose from. If you don’t already have a reservation at a local coastal site, check out Guajome Regional Park that has a little bit of everything San Diego has to offer. Lots of green lawn ideal for picnicking, playgrounds, shade and afternoon ocean breezes! Time to bust out those classic campfire tunes, what are you waiting for?!
Get one “s’more” family vacation in with a summer camping trip! Lots of places in #ncsd to pitch a tent, sleep under stars, and enjoy campfire!

Top Three Things to Do in North County San Diego in April!

 April is a wonderful month in San Diego. The air is cool & the days are warm. Spring is a special time in San Diego, it means spending more time outdoors & enjoying the season with loved ones. This month we’ve found all sorts of things to do. Here are the Top 3 things to do…for free in April!
Whether your a local or just visiting, Cruisin’ Grand in Escondido is a place to go for food, fun & people watching. Opening night of this weekly event in Escondido starts on Friday April 4th & goes through September. This free event showcases over 500 cars as they line the streets of historic downtown Escondido on East Grand Avenue. Opening night festivites begin at 5pm-9pm.

Do you love avocados? San Diego takes this fruit seriously! Celebrate this California heritage with endless entertainment at the 28th Annual Avocado Festival in Fallbrook! This festival is filled with arts and crafts, a farmers market, food court, beer garden, live entertainment and children’s activities. On April 12th, be sure to cheer on the runners participating in the 1st Annual Avocado Half Marathon and 5k through beautiful Live Oak Park.


Do you love to be creative but don’t have the space or materials? Well look no further. Charity Wings Art Center in San Marcos is a place for people of all ages to enjoy art classes and events. Over 6,000 sq ft community art center hosts a open studio, ceramics, sewing, polymer clay, metal smithing, jewelry making, mixed/multi media arts, kids area and much much more! Visit their calendar to find the right event for you! Celebrate with this non-profit as they also embark on their 1 year anniversary on April 29th!

As a local, I’m always looking for new things to do in this lovely city I call home & even better if it doesn’t cost anything. This month there are three things that look like a new adventure for the whole family.

Visit a museum
February is Museum Month in San Diego. There are 42 Museums all over our county offering half priced admission throughout the month of February. Pick up a free San Diego Museum Month Pass at participating Macy’s locations & use the pass for up to four guests per visit at any of the 42 museums, cultural attractions and historical sites. Tour a Farm
A visit to Old Magee Ranch in Pala is an opportunity to experience a 3rd generation farm. This 320 acre heritage ranch grow organic citrus & avocado orchard in our North County hills. A fun day trip with the family to learn why local is better & take a guided tour of this unique operation.  Tours are available by appointment Tuesday through Saturday from 9-11am  $35 per adult and $15 for a child (ages 5+).  Make your reservation here:

Show your talent
North County teens can be a part of the local scene. All ages are welcome to join in this  night of creative expression.  The City of Carlsbad is hosting its 9th annual Teen Scene event on Saturday, February 22, from 4 to 9 pm at Calavera Hills Community Park. Local bands, filmmakers and artists ages 13 to 19 showcase their talents and compete for exciting opportunities and prizes. Plus enjoy activities like  video games, an art exhibit, a film festival, and more.Tickets are $5 if you purchase your tickets online or $8 at the door. For more info visit
