Things to do in San Diego in July!

Warmer weather, school is out and longer days. Summer is officially here! Enjoy this list of budget friendly and free activities to do in San Diego in July. I am also including a few places to catch the 4th of July fireworks!

Summer Movie Night – Finding Nemo


Location: Flight deck on the Midway


Actual movie night is in August, however registration opens up on July 10th and fills up fast!


Balboa Park

Balboa After Dark

Beginning on Memorial Day and ending September 1, get more for your money! Museum hours are being extended in 8 different museums on Friday nights.

Enjoy special rates (as low as $5) at Fleet Science Center, San Diego Museum of Art and the Mingei International Museum for tickets to their evening hours only.

In addition, throughout the park there will be food trucks and entertainment

Chula Vista

Operated by a group of people who like to share their love and enthusiasm for building, operating and maintaining trains. Kids can even ride a small scale train!

 Gaslamp Quarter

July 6th from 6-7pm


Pop up workout class on the Garden Terrace at the Westin San Diego Gas Lamp Quarter. Hosted by Fitness and Foolishness.

The “Ish” workout by Thrasher is described as a mix of barre and HIIT along with stretching. Give it a try for free! Yoga mats are also provided for your use. Complimentary super food snacks will be provided along with goodie bags sponsored by Reef Women! All fitness levels welcome.

Qualcomm Stadium

Youth Football Clinic

July 15th at 8am

FREE and open to all ages between 6 and 14


Kids will get the opportunity to participate in drills, tackling, defense and offense. Skills are taught by university coaches and former NFL players. Some of the NFL players are Legedu Naanee, Stephen Cooper, Ryan Lindley and Larry Parker. Kids will also learn the fundamentals of being a good student/athlete and football player.

Fireworks Schedule

I recommend double checking schedules for cancellations or time changes to be sure firework shows are set to go off as scheduled. Times posted are when fireworks are scheduled to begin. Check the websites for other activities that will be going on during the day and recommendations for where to view the fireworks.


Big Bay Boom 2017

San Diego

July 4th at 9pm

FREE event


One of the largest firework displays in San Diego County with fireworks located on 4 barges. Barges are off Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Seaport Village/Coronado Landing and the Embarcadero. Set radio stations to 1090 AM or 105.7 FM for simulcast music!


Chula Vista

July 4th  Gates open at 6pm, fireworks begin at 9pm

FREE event but parking is $10


Location: US Olympic Training Center at 2800 Olympic Pkwy in Chula Vista



July 4th at 9pm

FREE event with all day activities and a parade at 10am
